Christine Schenk ist seit 2021 wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Institut für Sozialanthropologie und Empirische Kulturwissenschaft. Ihre Forschung geht der Frage nach, welche Rolle Religion und religiöse Organisationen in Gesellschaften in Kriegs- sowie Krisensituation einnehmen. Derzeit arbeitet sie an einem Buchprojekt zur Reform des Familienrechts in Sri Lanka nach dem Bürgerkrieg.
Christine Schenk studierte Geographie an der Universität Regensburg und der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Anschliessend absolvierte sie den Postgraduiertenstudiengang «Internationale Zusammenarbeit für nachhaltige Entwicklung» am Seminar für Ländliche Entwicklung der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Ihre Dissertation über die Regulierung von Familienbeziehungen im Kontext von Scharia, Tsunami und Bürgerkrieg in Aceh, Indonesien, schloss sie 2016 am Departement für Geographie und Umwelt der Universität Genf ab.
Christine Schenk verbrachte Forschungsaufenthalte am Department of International Development, London School of Economics and Politics (2013), an der School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford (2016- 17, mit Lehrtätigkeit) und an der University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka (2016-17). Christine Schenk war von 2017-2021 wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Religionswissenschaftlichen Seminar der UZH.
Vor ihrer akademischen Tätigkeit war Christine Schenk insgesamt zehn Jahre als Beraterin im Kontext politischer und humanitärer Krisen in Asien (Sri Lanka, Osttimor, Indonesien) und Lateinamerika (Haiti, Peru, Honduras) in verschiedenen institutionellen Formen der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit (Nichtregierungsorganisation, bi- und multilaterale Zusammenarbeit, Ministerium) tätig.
