Lydia Ginzburg is an anthropologist of knowledge whose research investigates knowledge production, epistemic movements, and the dynamic interplay between anthropological and philosophical theory and practice. Her work interrogates the institutional dynamics and boundary-work vital to the infusion of theoretical frameworks into lived practice. She obtained her PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2025. Her dissertation, titled: “Philosophy as Practice: An Anthropological Inquiry into Knowledg, Bounderies and Transformation”, was based on ethnographic fieldwork in Italy, Russia, and Norway. The research tracked the emergence of the International Movement of Philosophical Practice, a domain distinct from academic philosophy that seeks to embed philosophical ideas and methodologies into daily life.

Ginzburg’s doctoral research was supported by institutional affiliations with the Bern University and the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology (Halle). In February 2027, she will commence work on the SNSF-funded joint project, "Bildung: Ethnographies of Boundaries and Experiential Epistemologies in Philosophical Practice" (PI: Prof. Johannes Quack), examining the systemic tensions between the ideal of philosophizing and institutional constraints within practitioner training programs.
