Nazgul Baigabatova

Dr. Nazgul Baigabatova is an Associate Professor at Zhetysu University in Тaldykorgan, Kazakhstan. She is currently a guest at Peter Finke’s chair within the framework of the Horizon Project “Central Asian Law: Legal Cultures and Business Environments in Central Asia” funded by the European Commission’s H2020 MSCA-RISE Programme (project number 870647. The project is on producing new knowledge and policy insights on the interlinkages between legal cultures, governance, and business environment in Central Asia.

Nazgul works on the history and ethnography of Kazakhs, diaspora, identity, adaptation and integration of repatriates, as well as woman entrepreneurship in Central Asia. She has been conducting fieldwork in Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and China. During her stay at ISEK in March and April 2023, she focuses within the Central Asian Law project on issues of Women Entrepreneurs in Kazakhstan.

Aliya Kashaganova

Aliya Kashaganova, MA., is a junior researcher at the scientific and educational center «Rukhani Zhangiru» at Zhetysu University in Taldykorgan, Kazakhstan. Currently, she is a visiting researcher at ISEK within framework of the Horizon Project «Central Asian Law: Legal Cultures and Business Environments in Central Asia» research and training project funded by the European Commission’s H2020 MSCA-RISE Programme (project number 870647). During her stay in March and April 2023, she works together with Peter Finke, Werner Hertzog, and Meltem Sancak on land issues and agricultural business entrepreneurs in Southern Qazaqstan.
