Studying Social and Cultural Anthropology
A Brief Introduction
Anthropology is concerned with the diversity of human cultures and societies. As a social science discipline, it is characterised by its focus on local organizational structures and mechanisms, everyday practices and oral traditions, the use of artifacts and images as research material, a strong emphasis on a comparative perspective, and most significantly, the methods of ethnographic enquiry in general and intensive participant-observation in particular.
