I am a folklorist and (European) ethnologist teaching and researching in the fields of folklore, cultural anthropology, sound studies, and cultural studies of science and technology. I have worked in research projects at the Universities of Hamburg, Basel, and Zurich, where I am currently the scientific coordinator of the research group "Broadcasting Swissness." My studies concern the relation of technological change to the social dimension of labor at a mail order service in Hamburg (Arbeitsalltag und technischer Wandel, Lit 2010), museums and memory institutions, and the social construction of cultural heritage and cultural property, focusing on the realm of sound archives (diss. thesis, Univ. of Zurich 2012, publ. Zurich: Chronos 2015, summary). Among my current projects at the ISEK is a book on the history of the Swiss international shortwave radio and identity politics through sound. Lastly, I have taught courses in qualitative methods, anthropology of the senses, and popular music and the radio. I serve as a member of the editorial team of Schweizer Volkskunde and of the board of the Swiss Folklore Society at Zurich (SGV Sektion Zürich), and I am a member of the DFG network on Konkurrenz und Wettbewerb.
