Workshop on “Agents, Persons, Subjects and Selves” by Prof. Paul Kockelman, University of Yale

This workshop deems to explore the ever relevant thematics of agency, personhood, subject-hood and selfhood through an expository analysis of these oft conflated and confused categories. These four social and semiotic categories would be unpacked and critically examined through a close reading of Prof. Kockelman’s papers and his presentation of ethnographic and linguistic material.

The workshop comprises of three sessions each of which would comprise of the presentation of material by Prof. Kockelman and would be followed by a more open ended discussion. Participants would be required to closely engage with a few specified texts in order to facilitate a richer engagement during the workshop.

All those wishing to participate in the workshop are requested to register themselves by the 20th of April.

Dates of the workshop: 7th and 8th of May, 2018

Venue: The workshop would be conducted at Universität Zürich, ISEK - Ethnologie Andreasstrasse 15, CH-8050 Zürich (The specific rooms for the two days are mentioned below in the programme)
