Workshop ‘Committed to Religion's Other: The Anthropology of the Secular’

14–15 December 2020 on Zoom

This workshop brings together an international group of junior and senior scholars engaged in anthropological research on secularism and nonreligion. By focusing in particular on forms of “lived” nonreligion, the contributions shed light on a domain of socio-cultural and political life that has been neglected in anthropological theory; they also explore the unique and novel perspectives that ethnographic approaches contribute to a field that has been dominated by Eurocentric categories and the disciplinary frameworks of sociology, history, political science, and philosophy.

The workshop is based on the discussion of pre-circulated papers to be published subsequently as a special issue. All interested colleagues are cordially invited to participate. If you would like to join, please register by Thursday, December 10 with the organisers for access to the circulated papers and a link to the Zoom meeting.
